In The Details

By using Old Wood or what is known as reclaimed lumber we are also helping the environment. All of the wood we use comes from old structures where virgin timber was used. Virgin timber has smaller growth rings and is considerably stronger than today’s “farm-raised” lumber, which has very large growth rings and therefore reduces the strength of the finished product. On the interior of the cabinets, we use only new Plywood and we only use solid hardwoods for the drawers. Monticello Cabinets and Doors never uses any particle board construction.

We are proud to say that we are saving thousands of trees a year using our construction methods.

Cabinet Drawers:
All of our drawer systems are made from solid hard woods with a dove tail drawer system (see picture). We offer side ball bearing tracks or the under mount “Blumotion” system.

Cabinet Hinges:
Our cabinets come standard with a hidden hinge; this optional barrel hinge is for appearance only. The reason we incorporate the hidden hinge is for ease of adjustment.
All cabinets need adjustment at some point in time. The “Blum” hinge system is the best in the world and allows a home owner to adjust a hinge when a grandchild uses a door to swing on. It’s just a nice benefit to be able to adjust your own doors if there is ever a need.

Doors:
Our exterior door panels are designed to keep out the elements. We incorporate an insulating layer between the exterior & interior wood of the door panel. This allows the featured cracks, nail holes and/or knots to stop water or wind from coming through, but still allows the beauty and character of the wood to show.

Reclaimed Lumber:
When you receive your cabinets, you will receive a Certificate of Authenticity identifying the origin of your wood. Many of our cabinets are constructed of timber from old mills and large manufacturing shops in the Northern part of the United States and Canada. We recently brought in timbers measuring 18” x 12” x 30’ that came from an old railroad roundhouse. This is something you just don’t see anymore. We were able to make some incredible doors from this lumber. You will also receive a touch-up kit and information on how to care for your doors and cabinets.
